John F. Heavey III, 81, of Pinehurst, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

There will be no funeral services. The family will hold a private interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park at a later date.

Mr. Heavey was born Feb. 20, 1928, in Boston, Mass., to the late Evelyn B. and John F. Heavey Jr. After service in the United States Army he graduated from Northeastern University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Mr. Heavey was a utility executive in Boston and New York City. After working in the utility industry for 40 years, he retired to Pinehurst, where he was a member of the Pinehurst Country Club and Fairwoods on Seven.

Mr. Heavey was preceded in death by his first wife of 15 years, Barbara L. Heavey, and his second wife of 34 years, Patricia G. Heavey.

Survivors include his children, Craig J. Heavey, of Canaan, Maine; Brett S. Heavey, Lynn C. Heavey and Chris J. Heavey, all of Cochituate, Mass.; one sister, Marilyn H. Kennedy and husband, Philip J. Kennedy, of Westport, Conn.
