Billy Ray Childress, 62, of Carthage, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday April 12, at Red Branch Baptist Church in Carthage, with Dr. J. Billy Graham, and the Rev. D. C. Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. A visitation was held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines.

Mr. Childress was born Nov. 26, 1946, in Moore County, to the late Spencer and Mary Holder Childress. He worked for GKN Automotive for 16 years. He enjoyed fishing at Lake Tillery and spending quality time with his family.

Mr. Childress is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kay Childress; his three children, Tammie Lytle, Billy Ray Childress Jr., and Bryant Childress; five brothers, Preston Childress, Clinton Childress, Roger Childress, Eugene Childress, and David Childress; three sisters, Mae Gulledge, Joyce Ring, and Sylvia Ring; and six grandchildren.
