Gray's Creek snapped the Union Pines baseball team's three-game win streak Thursday night.

The Bears earned the season sweep of the Vikings with a 5-0 decison, thanks to the pitching and hitting of junior B.B. King.

King pitched a complete game and hit a towering two-run homer for the homestanding Bears, who improved to 7-2 in the Cape Fear Valley Conference.

Union Pines dropped to 5-8 overall and 3-6 in conference.

King allowed just one hit and two walks while fanning 13 Vike batters.

Union Pines' lone hit of the evening came off the bat of Cody Allred, with one out in the bottom of the third. Allred soon stole second base but was then left stranded as King struck out the next two hitters.

Vike pitcher Nevin Wilson matched King pitch for pitch through three innings. But the Bears got to him in the fourth for two runs thanks to two Vike errors and a RBI single.

The Bears struck quickly in the fifth. After the lead-off batter reached on a throwing error, King and Tyler Herbert blasted back-to-back homers to give the Bears a 5-0 lead.

Saturday, Union Pines played the first of its three scheduled games in the Douglas Byrd Easter Invitational. The Vikes will conclude the tournament playing consecutive games on Monday and Tuesday of next week, with the starting times yet to be determined. Union Pines returns to CFV action, after the school's spring break, in a league tilt with Southern Lee at Cameron on April 21.
