Peggy Price Weltner, 73, died Monday, April 6, at her residence in Fairwoods on 7, Pinehurst.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 14, at 10 a.m. at The Village Chapel in Pinehurst, with Dr. Al Hill officiating.
Mrs. Weltner was born March 22, 1936, to the late William H. Price and Glennie Duke in Columbus, Ga. Formerly of Tucson, Ariz., she and her husband moved to Pinehurst, where she was the first female chairperson for the Board of Governors for Fairwoods on 7. An avid golfer, both at Fairwoods on 7 and at Tucson National in Tucson, Ariz., she was extremely active as a managing volunteer for the scoring operations for the PGA, the LPGA, and the USGA. Peggy was a great homemaker, great cook, and a great wife. People fell in love with her social flair and her ability to organize social events. She never met anyone she didn't like or tried to like and was a real giver of herself to others.
She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Dale; one son, R. Thomas Nix and wife, Nancy, of Pisgah Forest; a daughter, Ramona Nix Jordan, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; stepson, James D. Weltner, of Berkeley, Calif.; stepdaughter, Linda Weltner Thompson and husband, William, of Rochester, Minn.; sister, Joann Bailey of Columbus, Ga.; grandchildren, Jessica Thompson Passaro, of Minneapolis, Minn., Stacia Elizabeth Thompson, of Melbourne, Australia, Grace Weltner, of Berkeley, Calif., David A. Jordan, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Hayden T. Jordan, of Chattanooga, Tenn. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Charles E. and James R. Price; sisters, Pat R. Weltner, Mary L. Santerre, and Betty J. Massey.
