A Pleasure to Read

It is always a pleasure to read articles regarding local and regional history about Southern Pines, and about Weymouth in particular.

The column, "Andersons and Boyds Were Good Friends," by Stephen Smith, was particularly interesting as it pinpointed the relationship of two notables in the literary world and their growing lifelong friendship.

Writing like this provides much insight into the development of the culture and history of Southern Pines, particularly the literary heritage unique to our small community.

Established in the early '40s by James and Katharine Boyd and later by Sam Ragan, The Pilot is to be commended for continuing a tradition that informs the community about the beauty of creativity through the written word.
