Virginia Gadd Sloan passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009, at her home in Southern Pines.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Robert Roland Sloan. Virginia and her husband, Bob, were originally from Charlotte. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Georgia Beam, and brothers, Charles and Tom Gadd.

Surviving are her three loving daughters: Missy Sloan, of Southern Pines; Cindy Davis and her husband, Eddie, of Pinehurst; and Karen Perry and her husband, Bob, of High Point. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Sloan Perry Anderson and husband, Charles, of Huntsville, Ala., Drew Davis, of Pinehurst, and Chris Perry, of High Point. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Albert (Pete) Sloan, and his wife, Marcia, of Charlotte, and a sister-in-law, Louise Gadd of Hickory, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Virginia was a member of Southern Pines United Methodist Church and the Mary Martha Circle. She was an avid reader and also loved and appreciated "all creatures great and small" in God's world. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother (GG). GG loved her family, friends and her Lord.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Children's Home Society of North Carolina, P.O. Box 14608, Greensboro, NC 27415; FirstHealth Hospice, 150 Applecross Rd., Pinehurst, NC 28374; or Southern Pines United Methodist Church, 175 Midland Rd., Southern Pines, NC 28387.

Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 6, at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Charlotte. A memorial service was held at 1 p.m.,Tuesday, April 7, at Southern Pines United Methodist Church.
