Josephine (Jay) Emilia Longo Malarchick, 93, of Seven Lakes, formerly of Redding, Conn., died Friday, April 3, 2009, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
She was the wife of the late Stephen J. Malarchick Jr. She was born in Cos Cob, Conn., Dec. 2, 1915, a daughter of the late Joseph and Emilia Bria Longo.
A funeral service will be held Monday, April 6, at 11 a.m. at Sandhills Assembly of God Church, in Southern Pines, with Senior Pastor Bryan R. Rainbow officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. preceding the service.
Jay was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She was a psychiatric nurse (LPN) for 34 years. She served 14 years at Four Winds in Cross River, N.Y., and was with the Silver Hill Foundation in New Canaan, Conn., for 20 years. She loved to entertain, enjoyed going to antique places and collecting, and had a passion for collecting dishes as well. She enjoyed crocheting, made afghans for all her family members, and enjoyed watching old classic movies. She loved roses and always tried to keep a rose garden, but the deer enjoyed her roses equally well.
Jay is survived by two sons, Stephen J. Malarchick III of Lake Elsinor, Calif., and Robert E. Malarchick and his wife, Leslie A., of Seven Lakes; a daughter, Julianna L. Crombi, of Hilton Head, S.C.; eight grandchildren, Stephen J. Malarchick IV and his wife, Kim, of Houston, Texas, Sandi L. Craemer and her husband, Charlie, of Brookfield, Conn., Mitchell P. Malarchick and his wife, Beth, of New Milford, Conn., Kevin C. Malarchick, of New Milford, Conn., Jennifer Lopes and her husband, Tony, of New Milford, Conn., Alan G. Malarchick and his wife, Valerie, of Houston, Texas, Brian Meltzer and Michelle Meltzer, of New York City; eight great-grandchildren; Stephen J. V, Michelle E., Mitchell P II, Samatha Josephine, Rylan N. Malarchick, Zachary, Joshua and Madison Lopes. She is also survived by a brother, Joseph Longo Jr. and his wife, Gloria as well as two former daughters-in-law, Sandra Mary Evans and her husband, Gordon (Butch) of New Milford, Conn., and Diane Sharkey, of Danbury, Conn. She was predeceased by two brothers, Michael and Charles Longo, and a sister, Angelina Cordello. She has several nieces and nephews as well.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church in Danbury, Conn., at 57 Main Street, on Friday April 17, at 10:30 a.m. A visitation will precede the service at Green Funeral Home in Danbury, Conn., also on Main Street, starting at 9:30 a.m. Rite of committal will be in St. Peters Cemetery.
