James F. Pifko, 71, of Pinehurst, died Saturday, April 4, 2009, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Southern Pines United Methodist Church.

Mr. Pifko was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Berlin. He retired from General Motors after 40 years, to come to Pinehurst and play golf.

He is survived by his wife, Freddie Pifko; sons, Fred Pifko and wife, Renee, of Clinton Township, Mich., Jeff Pifko, of Los Angeles, Calif.; grandchildren, David and Daniel Pifko; a brother, Stanley Pifko and wife, Roe, of Utica, Mich.; a sister, Lorraine Petrik, of Roseville, Mich.
