Arts Council Presents Summer Theater Camps

The Arts Council of Moore County announces three opportunities this summer for youth ages 7 to 14 in Moore County. The camps are an effort to offer Moore County's youth the opportunity to explore the magic of musical theater, on stage and behind the scenes. The dates and preliminary information are as follows:

n June 15-28, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Southern Pines Elementary School, "Broadway Blast" -- Campers will participate in music, dance and theater performance workshops learning selections from the last 100 years of Broadway musicals. Campers will present a revue performance of what they have learned June 26, 27 and 28 at Southern Pines Elementary School Auditorium.

n July 13-26, 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Terpsichore Dance Studio, "Decades and Legends" -- Campers will take a cross-country tour of America's greatest music and icons from the past 50 years. They will present a revue performance of what they have learned July 24, 25, and 26 at the Sunrise Theater.

n Aug. 3-16, 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Terpsichore Dance Studio, "Cinemagic!" -- Campers will participate in music, dance and theater performance workshops while celebrating the silver screen and Hollywood's musical history. Campers will present a revue performance of what they have learned Aug. 14, 15 and 16 at the Sunrise Theater.

Each camp will include instructional workshops exploring the various aspects of theater, such as acting, movement, singing and auditioning, using the music and styles from the camp theme. The second week will be production-oriented, culminating in a special performance by the campers.

Enrollment will be limited to 50 students per camp. Register at The Campbell House (482 E. Connecticut Ave, Southern Pines) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Full payment is due at registration.
