Lindsay Parkin and Keely Robinson each hit two-run triples in the first inning, sparking the Pinecrest softball team to a 9-2 victory over Seventy-First.
Robinson tripled home two more runs in the fifth in Friday's home game. She also received credit for the victory after allowing one unearned run over the last four innings. The freshman pitched in relief of starter Abby Hinson, who gave up one on four hits, while striking out three, in the first three innings.
After going winless in their first six games, the Patriots have now won three in a row. They took a 3-5-1 overall record and 3-2 mark in the conference into Saturday's tournament at North Moore. They are back at home on Monday in a non-league game against Western Harnett.
The Patriots did all of their first-inning damage against Seventy-First after the first two batters were retired. Lindsay Parkin lined a ball by the Falcon second baseman that rolled all of the way to the fence for a triple. She completed the circuit when the throw toward home got away.
The next batter, Olivia Cioccalanti, singled to center. After Felicia Woods reached base on an infield error, Robinson brought both home with her first triple. A wild pitch plated another, making it 4-0.
The Falcons (1-8, 1-4) picked up a run in the second, but the home team got it back in the fourth. Singles by Alexis Gibson and Lizzie Smith coupled with a pair of Falcon errors increased the Patriot advantage to 5-1.
. Parkin and Woods singled in the fifth, setting up Robinson's second triple on a wicked shot up the alley in right-center field, making it 7-1. Four Falcon errors contributed to the final two Patriot runs in the sixth. Ashley Mashburn beat out an infield hit to start the inning and circled the bases on errant throws. With one out, Alex Harrison singled sharply to right field. Moments later, she scored on a bunt single by Hinson.
Ten different players contributed to Pinecrests' total of 12 hits, including a triple by Jennica Denham. Robinson and Parkin finished with two apiece.
