The Union Pines Viking girls' soccer team continues to dominate Cape Fear Valley conference opponents.
The Vikes handed South Johnston a 9-0 defeat Wednesday. The win moved the Vikes to 8-0 overall and 6-0 and to first place in the conference.
Seven different Vikes scored in the match for Union Pines. Veteran forward Anna Pilson got an offensive onslaught started in the ninth minute when she converted an assist from Taylor Smith, giving the Vikes a 1-0 lead.
Pilson finished the night with two goals and two assists. She has now scored eight goals on the year.
Kacey Garner and Smith scored first-half goals to give the Vikes a 3-0 lead at intermission. Pilson and Melissa Hoffman assisted on Smith's goal, while Danielle Parent assisted on Graner's.
The lead doubled on Pilson's second goal and a pair of goals by Carly Lively in the opening eight minutes of the second half.
Lively has scored six times in her last two games and leads the team with nine goals.
Monday Union Pines wraps up the first half of the CFV conference season on the road, in Lillington, against the second place Western Harnett Lady Eagles (5-1 CFV, 7-1 overall). Currently Gray's Creek is in third place with a league mark of 3-2, while Harnett Central and Southern Lee are tied for fourth with records of 3-2-1. With a win at Western Harnett on Monday, the Vikes could take a commanding two-game lead in the race for the CFV championship. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
