On Wednesday, April 8, the Kiwanis Club of the Sandhills will host the 63rd annual Picquet Music Competition for Moore County high school students.
Over many years the event has grown from a club songfest of Kiwanis members to a scholarship competition for exceptional music students in the public and private high schools.
The first place winner receives $1,500, the second gets $800, and third is awarded $700 toward advanced study in music.
The scholarship competition is held at a yearly meeting in April.
This year's entrants include:
Jeffrey Barrett, euphonium, "Concertina" by Leroy Ostransky.
Sarah Blue, violin, "Sonata No. 3 (allegro)" by G.F. Handel.
Summer Hennings, soprano, "Hatikvah" arranged by Lieberger.
Caitlin Howard, flute, "Suite in B minor" by J.S. Bach.

Jamie Lutz, tenor saxophone, "Adiago, Allegro" by G.F. Handel.
