Baseball Registration

For MCPR League

Moore County Parks and Recreation has begun registration for its 13-14 boys' baseball program.

Age is determined as of May 1, 2009. The cost is $20 per player.

Registration deadline is Friday, April 17 at 5 p.m.

Persons wishing to register their child for this league can do so at the Moore County Parks and Recreation office at 155 Hillcrest Park Lane, Carthage or go online to www.moorecountyparksandrec.com and print off a registration form and fax it to the number on the form.

Proof of age must be presented to the parks and Recreation Dept. to be eligible to participate.

Tee Ball's 5-6-year-old league and the 7-8-year-old boys' and girls machine pitch leagues deadline is May 8, 2009.

Women's Softball

Registration in

Aberdeen

The Aberdeen Parks and Recreation Department is holding registration for Women's softball.

Women's ssoftball is open to women ages 16 and older.

Deadline for registration is April 16. Team registration fee will be determined by number of teams participating.

Games will be played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Colonial Heights Park.

To register, come by the Aberdeen Parks and Recreation Department located at 301 Lake Park Crossing in Aberdeen. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Running Camp

Reebok's Mountain High Running Camp will be held in Mars Hill on July13 -18.

Middle and high school cross country camp featuring great trails, free Reebok shoes and a staff of elite U.S. and Kenyan runners and coaches.

Sports Facility

Hosts Open House

Sandills Sports Center is hosting an open house from 9:30 a.m. to noon on April 4 to showcase the facility and gauge interest in the formation of t-ball, coach pitch, baseball, softball, soccer, flag football, roller hockey and volleyball leagues for children ages 5 to 15.

The facility is located two miles east of Aberdeen off N.C. 211.

PHS Football Meeting

A meeting has been scheduled for Monday, April 6, for the parents or guardians of all incoming ninth-graders through rising 12th-graders interested in being members of the football program at Pinecrest.

It will held in the high school auditorium, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Coach Chris Metzger calls the meeting mandatory because it is critical for every player's parent, guardian or other adult family member to be present when the program rules, regulations and yearly calendar are reviewed.

It is also an opportunity to meet the entire coaching staff and ask questions.

In addition, all spirit pack checks and orders are due that day.

Little Patriot

Football Camp

Registrations are now under way for the Little Patriots Youth Football Spring Break Camp sponsored by Sandhills Optimist Club.

Students enrolled in the first through eighth grades are invited to attend the April 13 through April 15 camp led by Chris Metzger, head football coach at Pinecrest High School, his staff and area guest coaches.

The camp hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $75 per person.

Changes in camp dates and times are due to spring break for Moore County Schools.

Camp attire is shorts, athletic socks, cleats and running shoes. Participants should bring lunch and water each day.

Checks are to be made payable to Sandhills Optimist Club. No child will be excluded because of financial hardship.

Golf Tournament

Rescheduled

The Carolina Breeze Golf Invitational has been rescheduled for April 5 at Whispering Woods.

Format is captain's choice with a 2 p.m. shotgun start. Cost is $50 per player, $200 per team. Trophies will be given for the top two teams.

The Carolina Breeze are a 16U traveling softball team based in Moore County.

Sand Gnats

Seek Players

The Sand Gnats baseball teams are looking for a few players to fill out their teams. The team needs players for its 45 and older, 35 and older teams.

The Sand Gnats are members of Senior Men's Baseball, a national organization. The Sand Gnats play in the 32-team Central North Carolina's Men's Baseball League.

Pitch, Hit and Run

Competition

Gospel Chapel is hosting Major League Baseball's local Pitch, Hit, and Run competition on May 2 at Hillcrest Park at 3 p.m.

The event is free to ages 7-14.

Local winners (each category, and all around champion) advance to sectionals with a chance to continue. Regional winners compete for the national championship at the MLB All Star Game.

Sandsharks Offer

Swim Lessons

The Sandhills Youth Football League, North Carolina's newest youth traveling football league, is looking for new teams for the Inaugural 2009 football season.

Teams and cheer squads are open to all boys and girls ages 5 to 15.

The SHYFL will offer a disciplined, competitive environment under the Offense-Defense umbrella and tailored to the Sandhills.
