Authors Coming to Town: The Country Bookshop Announces Spring Schedule

The Country Bookshop on Broad Street in downtown Southern Pines announces its spring "Meet the Author" series.

On Thursday, April 2, at 4 p.m., Therese Fowler, author of "Souvenir," returns with her new novel, "Reunion," a fascinating, behind-the-scenes look at the real-life and off-camera drama of a famous talk show host.

Award-winning children's author and illustrator Mark Teague will present his new book, "Funny Farm," where pigs play practical jokes, the sheep brush their teeth before grazing, and the mice churn their own butter, Tuesday, April 7, at 11 a.m.

On Wednesday, April 15, at 4 p.m., "Steel Magnolias" meets "Fried Green Tomatoes" in Todd Johnson's debut novel, "The Sweet By and By," about five Southern women whose lives come together in a journey of courage, hope, and humor.

Adam Shepard's highly anticipated discussion of his memoir, "Scratch Beginnings: Me, $25, and the Search for the American Dream," which was cancelled earlier this month, has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 23, at 4 p.m.

One of The Country Bookshop's favorite authors, Ann B. Ross, returns with her 10th novel in the Miss Julia series, "Miss Julia Delivers the Goods," Tuesday, April 28, at 1 p.m.

Michael Malone, Emmy Award-winning writer for "One Life to Live" and "Days of Our Lives," and author of nine novels including "Handling Sin" and NYT's best-selling "The Killing Club," presents his new novel, "The Four Corners of the Sky," Friday, May 8 at 2 p.m.

Southern Pines-own James Dodson, author of "Final Rounds" and "Faithful Travelers," shares his long-awaited memoir, "A Son of the Game: A Story of Golf, Going Home, and Sharing Life's Lessons" on Thursday, May 14, at 6 p.m.

Golf Magazine's Top 100 Teacher Eric Alpenfels, director of instruction at the Pinehurst Golf Academy, and Dr. Bob Christina, UNC Greensboro assistant men's golf coach, co-authors of "Instinct Putting: Putt Your Best Using the Breakthrough, Science-Based Target Vision Putting Technique," will sharpen anyone's game in 15 minutes Thursday, May 21, at 4 p.m.

On Tuesday, May 26, at 4 p.m., Lise Funderburg, author of "Black, White, and Other," will present her memoir, "Pig Candy: Taking My Father South, Taking My Father Home," the poignant and often comical story of a grown daughter getting to know her dying father in his last months.

John Hart, the 2008 Edgar Award-winning author of "Down River" and "King of Lies," returns Thursday, May 28, at 4 p.m., with his latest thriller, "The Last Child," the story of a young boy's hunt for his missing sister, and the dark truths he uncovers in his North Carolina hometown.

On Thursday, June 4, at 4 p.m., Aaron Gwyn presents "The World Beneath," his mesmerizing literary novel that begins when a boy goes missing and winds into an obsessive hunt with murderous results.

Cathy Holton, author of "Revenge of the Kudzu Debutantes" and "The Secret of the Kudzu Debutantes," shares her new novel, "Beach Trip," Friday, June 12. A time will be announced later.

Authors are now being booked for the summer author series.
