AARP Offers Free Income Tax Assistance, Preparation

The local AARP Tax-Aide Program is again providing free tax counseling and preparation of 2008 federal and North Carolina tax returns for Moore County residents through April 15.
Residents do not need to be AARP members to use this support. Service sites are:
Moore County Senior Enrichment Center, 8040 U.S. 15-501 (two miles north of the Pinehurst Traffic Circle), Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m. For appointments, call 215-0900. Anyone needing more information can contact: Barry Guthrie at 673-1164.
Boys and Girls Club, 160 Memorial Park Court, Southern Pines (behind the town baseball field at Morganton Road and U.S. 1), Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For appointments, call 692-0777.
Southern Pines Library, 170 W. Connecticut Ave., Tuesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Appointments can be made in person with the onsite tax-aide coordinator. No phone appointments. Walk-in service is available.
Habitat for Humanity Store and office, 2268 N.C. 5 in Aberdeen, Monday from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. For appointments, call 295-1934.
First Bank, N.C. 211 in Seven Lakes, Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For appointments, call 673-2911 or 673-8578.
Residents are asked to bring the following items with them:
n Social Security cards for all taxpayers and dependents.
n All copies of income tax forms for 2008, such as W-2 and W-2G, SSA 1099, RRB-1099 or RRB-1099-R and 1099-(INT, DIV, MISC, B, R, or G).
n Copy of 2007 tax returns.
n Records of all 2008 charitable donations.
n Copy of 2008 property tax payments.
If you operated a simple business, please bring records of income and expenses and your taxpayer identification number as well.
Anyone wanting the tax-aide counselor to file returns electronically and is expecting a refund is asked to bring a canceled check to verify account numbers for refund deposits directly into your bank account for faster service.
