A Real Tangle of Issues

I listened to our president conduct an online town meeting in Georgia. One woman asked what he would do to bring back jobs that have gone overseas. The president responded he will use "Cap and Trade," solar panels, wind turbines, reform of the medical system and bio fuels. This will create new jobs.

Bio fuels, paid for with taxes, raise the price of grain -- leading to higher food prices and food shortages in developing nations. Solar panels and wind turbines, currently manufactured in Europe, are brought to this country only with tax support. Free medical care will certainly be taxed upon the employee or employer.

The president did not mention 35 percent federal manufacturing taxes and state, county and local taxes. Federal, state, county and local regulations, the initiatives and attitude of the work force, and union work rules are also factors. Our energy costs are highest in the world as plans are made to increase that cost.

The politician quotes low wages. The CEO in a modern automated plant says, "Eliminate downtime, keep the plant running."
