The O'Neal varsity tennis team won its fourth match in a row defeating conference opponent Harrells Christian Academy, 8-1. The match was closer than the score indicated, as O'Neal (4-0, 3-0) won three tie-breakers to earn the victory. HCA fell to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in conference.

O'Neal sophomore Brianna Ek defeated Ashley Kersey 6-1, 6-4, while her teammate, junior Katie Jenkins, won a tough match 6-3, 2-6, 10-3. Mary Garner also won a tiebreaker 7-5, 4-6 (10-5), Emma Ruth Johnson (HCA) defeated Virginia Scarpa 6-1, 7-5. O'Neal's Amelia Schirmer defeated Eliza Roberts 6-0, 6-3, and Jenny Lam defeated Carol Johnson 6-4, 6-3.

O'Neal won all the doubles matches. Ek and Jenkins defeated Kersey and Armstrong, 8-3. Garner and Schirmer defeated Robison and Roberts, 8-4, and sisters Virginia and Victoria Scarpa trailed 4-1 and 5-2 before rallying past Johnson and Johnson, 9-8 (7-4).

Falcons Volleyball Tops Harrells

The O'Neal varsity volleyball team defeated Harrells Christian Academy, 3-1 Thursday night to earn its 10th win of the season. O'Neal (10-4, 2-2) won by scores of 25-5, 23-25, 25-10 and 25-13.

Senior Jackie Woodyear recorded 15 kills for the home-standing Falcons. Junior Megan Johnson had five service aces and Kelly Fowler added 10 digs. The Falcons will play an away game at Village Christian Academy on Sept. 30.

PHS Volleyball Earns Conference Victory

The Pinecrest volleyball team rolled to a 25-7, 25-13 and 25-12 victory over Westover at James Moore Gym Thursday evening.

The Patriots take a 5-1 record in the Mid-Southeastern Conference and 9-3 overall into Tuesday's home match against Seventy-First.

All of the Patriot players saw action led by Morgan Ridge with 23 assists. Other contributors included Kelly Lovely, 11 service points, Tatiana Suvorva, six kills, Emily Despain, seven digs, Annika Sala-Holshof, five service points and Luci Pelatti, three service points.

The Pinecrest jayvee team is 10-1 after defeating Westover 25-4 and 25-9.

Metzger to Address QB Club

The Woodlake Quarterback Club will hold a Guest Night at 6 p.m. Oct. 1 at Valenti's Restaurant in Vass. Pinecrest Head Football Coach Chris Metzger will be the guest speaker.

Metzger will discuss the turnaround of the Pinecrest football program as well as some plans for the future. Pinecrest won three games in 2007 and started this season 4-0 after going winless and almost dropping the sport in 2006.

The meeting will be open to nonmember guests at a cost of $12.00 and a dinner will be served to all attendees.
