A Carthage man died Monday in a one-car accident on U.S. 15-501.
Robert "Rob" David Speer, 22, of Freeman Road, died after his car ran off the highway and overturned, according to a report filed by the State Highway Patrol. He was on his way to work.
Speer was driving his 1996 Honda north on U.S. 15-501 near Bryant Road about 3.4 miles north of Carthage when he crossed the center line and ran off the left side of the road. It came back onto the road before the driver over-corrected, sending it back off the left side of the road and down an embankment, the report said.
The Honda overturned onto its passenger side, partially ejecting Speer. According to the Highway Patrol, the vehicle was going the speed limit at the time of the accident.
Speer was a cook at both Sagebrush Steakhouse and Mac's Breakfast Anytime, according to his obituary. The funeral service is 3 p.m. Friday at Harvest Church of God in Carthage.
