Wolfpack freshmen Tanya Cain and Lauren Bishop had the kind of Friday that would make their former coaches and teammates at Pinecrest proud.

Cain, a two-time all-state selection, and the all-time leading goal scorer and assist leader for the Patriots, scored her first two collegiate goals in a 4-0 victory over Campell on Friday. That performance earned the Pinebluff resident the first start of her college career in Sunday's 2-1 win over Maryland-Baltimore County.

Cain is the daughter of Tim and Jean Cain. She has played in all seven matches in the Wolfpack's 7-0 start.

Bishop is a member of a deep N.C. State cross country squad that has won 22 of the last 30 ACC titles.

In Friday's Adidas Wolfpack Invitational held at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, she finished second to teammate Kara McKenna with a time of 18:16 in the 5K run. That was more than 30 seconds better than her personal best for the same distance as a high school runner. The Wolfpack won the meet, taking the first five places. East Carolina was second in the 18-team competition made up of mostly lower division colleges.

Bishop had a big senior year at Pinecrest that included winning the Mid-Southeastern Conference cross country meet and a state title in the 3,200-meter run in track. She is the daughter of Bruce and Robin Bishop of Pinehurst.
