Adult In-line Hockey League
This league is for adults, ages 18 and over, and will be held Wednesday and Sunday evenings at Rassie Wicker Park. Teams will register together, with a team fee being determined by the number of teams participating in the league. For those interested in participating on a team, there will be an open night held Wednesday at the rink beginning at 8 p.m. This will give players a chance to meet captains and help get placed on a team. A Team Captains' meeting will then be held Thursday, at 6 p.m. at the Village Hall. For more information, please contact the Pinehurst Parks and Recreation Department at (910) 295-2817. The first games will be held Wednesday, September 24.
Tai Chi Class
Lee Holbrook will instruct this class based around the gentle circular movements of Tai Chi. This effective exercise increases body awareness, coordination, and longevity while strengthening immunity. People of all levels can enjoy this peaceful morning workout which can be practiced almost anywhere. Class will meet Wednesdays in the Village Hall, please pre-register with the recreation department. The cost for this program is $21 for Pinehurst residents, $32 for non-residents. Session I classes are 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 17 through Oct. 8.
Youth In-line Hockey League
A Program for girls and boys ages 5 to 17 that emphasizes having fun while learning the basic fundamentals and skill of in-line hockey. Five divisions will be offered: 5- 7, 8 & 9, 10 & 11, 12 & 13, and 14 - 17. All games and practices will be held at the hockey rink at Rassie Wicker Park and age will be determined as of August 1, 2008. Registration accepted until leagues are full. First practices will be held the third week of September. Mandatory equipment includes a helmet with protective mask, elbow pads, kneepads, shin guards, a mouthpiece, a protective cup/pelvic protector, hockey gloves, a hockey stick, and in-line skates. Anyone interested in coaching should indicate so on the registration form. There will be a Coaches Meeting held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Village Hall. Adult Tennis Lessons
These lessons are co-sponsored with the Pinehurst Tennis Club. Lessons will teach participants the fundamentals of tennis including proper grip, ground strokes, serves, and volleys. These classes will be held on courts 13 and 14 at the Pinehurst Tennis Club. The cost for these lessons is $22 for Pinehurst residents, $33 for non-residents. Beginner lessons are Mondays in September from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Advanced beginner lessons follow at 6:45 p.m.
Youth Tennis Lessons
Lessons for ages 6 to 15 are co-sponsored with the Pinehurst Tennis Club and Sandhills Tennis Association. Dillon Rice will teach youth the basics of the game including proper grip, forehand and backhand strokes, serves, and volleys. Youth should wear tennis shoes and bring their own racket to this class, which meets at the Pinehurst Tennis Club. The cost for these lessons is $5 for Pinehurst residents, $10 for non-residents. Classes for ages 10-15 are the same days and begin at 6:30 p.m.
Fall Coach Pitch Baseball
Co-sponsored with the Pinehurst Kiwanis Club and Sandhills Optimist Club, this league is for girls and boys ages 5 7 as of August 1, 2008. The emphasis is on fun and skill development in a pressure free environment. No score will be kept during the games and all youth in attendance are guaranteed to play. All practices and games are held twice weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays at Cannon Park. Practices will begin Sept. 15 and coaches will notify parents about the first practice time. The cost for this program is $10 for Pinehurst residents, $15 for non-residents. Anyone interested in coaching should indicate so on the registration form. New Sports Programs
Family Support Network of the Sandhills and the Moore County Parks and Recreation Department are working together to create a sports program for families with children with disabilities.
They are looking for families to join. Any person is eligible, ages 4-adult. Volunteer as a member of the planning committee.
