TJ Maxx is coming to Aberdeen.
Construction has already begun along U.S. 15-501 next to Best Buy and Starbucks. There had been rumors that a Carrabba's Italian Grill may be moving into that location.
A spokesperson for TJ Maxx said that a lease had been signed and the store is projected to open next spring. She had no other information on the property or why that particular site was chosen.
TJ Maxx is the nation's largest off-price retailer, selling brand-name and designer fashions for up to 60 percent less than department and specialty store prices, according to its Web site.
The company says it takes pride in store appearance by offering distinct signs, in-store displays and a well-designed store layout, which work together to create an "easy-to-shop" environment.
The company said it places great emphasis on having neat and attractive stores and maintains well-organized departments and merchandise displays.
It is similar to Stein Mart and Ross Stores, which have locations in the Southern Pines-Pinehurst-Aberdeen area.
The company was founded in 1976 and has since grown to 850 locations in 48 states. It now has more than 30,000 employees.
