The Whispering Pines Thrift Shop began its 26th year of operation in September, providing "gently used" clothing and household items.

"The items are priced to sell so that the shop can make money to donate to local charities," says a spokesman. "Donations of clothing, kitchen equipment, and other household families are also given to families in emergency situations, as well as professional-type clothing to some job seekers low on funds."

The shop has three new officers to help with administrative duties. Betty Lohmiller is assistant treasurer, Marty Mullenbach is vice president for shop operations, and Dos Nintzel will be handling publicity.

Board members still serving are Marianne Turner, president; Mary Lou Winn, vice president for personnel; Peg Carfi, allocations; Hope Dugenske, secretary; Bonnie Gollehon, treasurer; and Chub Nintzel, maintenance.

They, in turn are supported by about 75 volunteers who mark, unpack, and sell at the store.

"We are always in need of new workers to volunteer," says the spokesman. "Sellers spend only three hours a month at the shop and have fun doing it."

The Whispering Pines Thrift Shop is located on N.C. 22 and Ray's Bridge Road. Donations are accepted from 9 a.m. to noon Monday and Tuesday. Sales are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
