Sandhills Cup

The first Sandhills Cup doubles tournament will be held Dec. 27th at Pinehurst Tennis Club. Cost: $10 per entry. Proceeds benefit the Sandhills Food Bank. There will be prizes and a raffle. Rain date: Dec. 28. Information: SandhillsCup@ gmail.com.

Furrie to Speak

The Woodlake Quarterback Club will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 5 at Valenti's Restaurant in Vass. Guest speaker is Union Pines head football coach Jason Furrie. The dinner meeting will be open to non-member guests at a cost of $14. Union Pines Football parents are issued a special invitation to the meeting. Soccer Training Academy

Sandhills Futbol Club will host a winter training academy Nov. 17 to Jan. 29 at the Pinecrest High School soccer practice field. Cost: $200 per player; $150 per player for 10 or more. Soccer Club Registrations

Sandhills Celtic Soccer Club (formerly SYSL) has opened spring registration for recreation soccer. This is for boys or girls who were age 4 by August 1, 2008 through 14 years old who have not registered for the full season. Registration is open until Jan. 15, 2009. Cost is $70. Basketball League Cheerleading Camp

You may not be interested in dribbling, passing, or shooting a basketball, but if you've got spirit you're wanted to cheer for the Winter Basketball League. Basketball League Cheerleading Camp is open to youth ages 8-12. The instructor serves up a fun camp filled with cheers, chants, dance, jumps, spirit, and more. The camp will be held on Friday, Nov. 14, 4-6 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 15, 9 a.m. to noon at the Train House. Call the Aberdeen Parks and Recreation Department at 944-5902 for registration and more information. Individuals must reside within city limits of Aberdeen to qualify for resident fees.

Youth Basketball

Come join Aberdeen's Winter Basketball League. This program will emphasize the fundamentals of basketball, as well as having fun. This league is for children ages 5-12. Practices begins in December. Fees are $12 for residents and $25 for non-residents. The registration deadline is Nov. 6.

SP Basketball League

Basketball leagues are held for youth ages 5 to 12. The 5-6 and 7-8-year-olds practice during the week and play on Saturdays. The 9-10-year-old league is held Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays. The 9-12-year-old girls' league is held Wednesdays and Saturdays. The 11-12-year-old boys' league is Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. All practices are held at the Southern Pines Recreation Center and Southern Pines Elementary School. Registration accepted through Nov. 14. Fee: $10 residents, $25 non-residents.
