An alarm going off Sunday at Hawkins and Harkness resulted in the arrest of a West End man inside the jewelry store located on Broad Street in Southern Pines.

Southern Pines police encountered Karl Arthur Andrews, 26, of West End inside the store when they responded to the alarm. He was attempting to escape through a window when police spotted him.

When officers arrived at the scene of the crime, they discovered a broken window, leading to the search of the building.

Andrews was charged with breaking and entry, and his bail was set at $5,000.
