Billy Joe Maness Sr., 77, of Asheboro, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Randolph Hospital Inc.

He was born July 3, 1931, in Moore County, the son of the late Dewey Wright and Lalah Kidd Maness. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a retired police officer, having served with the City of Asheboro Police Department and the Randolph County Sheriff Department. He owned and operated Maness Dry Wall.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro. Burial followed at Randolph Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Survivors: his wife, Ozelma Flowers Maness; daughter, Pam M. Burrow, of Asheboro; son, Billy J. Maness Jr., of Asheboro; sisters, Clara M. Kennedy, of High Falls, and Velma M. Garner, of Aberdeen; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
