Laying All Blame at Republican Feet

In your article regarding the votes of House members on the financial rescue package (or bailout), you seem to have taken your normal position in blaming the Republicans for defeat of the bill.

Missing from your story was the fact that 15 Democrats from Barney Frank's own Banking Committee voted no, as well as 10 representatives from California that hid behind Nancy Pelosi's skirt for political cover in the upcoming election.

If the Democrats were so principled, they could have passed the bill by themselves since they have the majority in the House. Instead, they did what they always do in passing on responsibility for their own failures. Maybe trying to funnel 20 percent of any future overage in the package to a group like ACORN that is involved in voter registration fraud is the Democrats way of saving the economy, but by any reasonable standard there is enough blame to go around without laying all at the feet of the Republicans.

Your article would be understandable if it was written by that flame-thrower Dusty Rhoades, but we should expect more from a newspaper that serves all residents of Moore County. I am not a fan of Mr. Coble's, but just maybe he was voting his conscience, which does not happen very often in the House or Senate these days.
