Kennel Club Show Deemed a Success

Moore County Kennel Club held its AKC-sanctioned dog show at the Pinehurst Harness Track Saturday, Sept. 13 and Sunday, Sept. 14.

Jane Forsyth, show chair, reported a fantastic turnout with top judges, well-known handlers, spectacular show dogs and the general public. The grounds were filled with first-time show goers, experienced dog people and vendors of all kinds.

"Putting on a successful show takes hard work and months of planning by the club members, and MCKC is good at doing just that," says Nona Burrell, who handles publicity for the event.

In addition to the breed show, and the obedience and rally trials, both microchip and rabies clinics were held.

"The microchip clinic was a huge success, thanks to Dr. Ann Turner, who pitched in at the last minute, and Dr. Melissa Israel, who did double duty both days," says Burrell. "Central Carolina Community College Vet Tech students assisted the vets. The club is grateful to Dr. Dana Vamvakias and Debbie Adoree, V.T., who were onsite when the other vets were not manning the clinic. Local people like this make it possible to have successful shows and clinics."

The Marines of Camp Lejeune and their Military Working Dogs presented a special program. Delighting the crowd, these hard-working teams demonstrated just some of the many duties of an average MWD. The MCKC provides special equipment and supplies to the MWD of Camp Lejeune and Fort Bragg, and members are grateful for these soldiers and Marines and their dogs.

During the shows the club held a raffle for a quilt with a dog motif. The Sandhills Quilters Guild donated the quilt to the club.

"We thank the ladies of the quilting group, especially Mary Williams, who worked on and supervised the quilt project," says Burrell.

The proceeds from the raffle went toward future items to be given to the MWD.
