The North Moore (5-7, 5-3) soccer team remained in the hunt for the Yadkin Valley Conference conference title with an impressive 5-0 win over Chatham Central Monday night.

The shutout win was the second consecutive and third overall for the Mustangs. The Mustangs will host conference leader East Montgomery tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Mustang Angel Luna scored the first goal of the match on a cross from Manny Mendoza. Four minutes later Jonni Lopez made it 2-0 on Mendoza's second assist of the match.

Mendoza earned his third assist of the match when he connected with Abraham Juan, who beat the Bear keeper to give the Mustangs a 3-0 lead midway through the first half.

With seven minutes before half-time, North Moore went on the attack again.

The ball found its way into the front of the Bear goal where a mad scramble occurred for possession. North Moore's Edgar Cabrera managed to poke the ball into the net for the fourth goal of the half.

In the second half Coach Shamberger moved the starting goalie and the fullbacks up to offense. The Mustangs continued to dominate play and had many shots at the goal. Rogelio Catalan, the team's starting goalie, tallied the game's final goal late in the second half on an assist from Juan.

North Moore head coach Michael Shamberger praised the effort of his team, following the win.

"They followed the game plan and played very well together," Shamberger said.
