Pilot Sponsors Contest for Capitol Steps Show

Doing your best impression of the Capitol Steps just might get you tickets to the political satire troupe's Pinehurst show.

The Pilot is sponsoring a contest for readers to submit their own stanza of political satire to the tune of a well-known song. The top five entries will win a pair of tickets to the Capitol Steps' concert at Pinecrest High School Oct. 19.

Advertising Director Pat Taylor said that the contest is a great way for readers of The Pilot to share their thoughts on the eve of a historic election.

"It's been such an incredible political process," Taylor said, "we thought it might be time to have a little fun."

The contest is called "Poetic Political Pundits Pontificating." Rules for the contest are fairly lax. All you have to do is write a couple of verses about current politics and try to make them funny in some way.

The challenge will come in making the verse fit to the tune of a well-known song. A panel of judges will pick the best of the best for a performance on ThePilot.com.

Submissions can be sent to pat@thepilot.com or mail to The Pilot, P.O. Box 58, Southern Pines, N.C. 28388, by Oct. 15.
