James Avent Holt, 80, of Sanford, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, after an extended illness.

Mr. Holt was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Lee County to the late Mr. and Mrs. William McPhail Holt Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked with Holt Truck and Tractor until his retirement. He was an avid horseman and enjoyed time spent on his farm in Moore County.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Sanford, directed by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home, Sanford.

Burial: Buffalo Cemetery.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral home.

Survivors: his daughters, Caroline Stirling, Susan Burleson, Nancy Holt, Becky Bauerband; a brother, W.M. "Bill" Holt Jr.; a sister, Ann Holt Yarborough; two grandsons.

Memorials: Community Home Care and Hospice, or to First Presbyterian Church of Sanford.
