Trinity Music Academy will present its annual Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, in the sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church, corner of Russell and Blair streets in Troy.
Once again, musicians and singers from several groups will perform the Christmas section from Handel's "The Messiah," concluding with the powerful "Hallelujah Chorus."
The TMA orchestra will be made up of members of the Raleigh, Greensboro, Fayetteville and North Carolina symphonies, along with several local TMA students and Sophia Pavlenko at the Clara Capel Memorial Pipe Organ.
The core of the chorus is the Trinity church choir, joined by members of the Opera Company of North Carolina, Long Leaf Opera Company, Capital Opera Company, Asheville Opera and Opera Carolina and TMA vocal students. Soloists will be sopranos, Stephanie Stein, Heidi Vega and Marcella Smith; mezzo-sopranos, Megan Roach and Stephanie Foley; tenors, Dan Stein and Joel Vega; baritone, Jeff Gwaltney and special guest soloist, tenor John Fowler.
Directing will be Dr. Paul Chandley, TMA executive director.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students. Tickets may be ordered in advance by calling the church at 576-4186. Tickets may also be available at the door, but ordering in advance is a good idea as this concert is an audience favorite each year.
TMA also has a special fundraiser this Christmas to benefit its scholarship fund. A classical Christmas CD, "Christmas with the Chandleys," by Trinity's duo piano team of Paul Chandley and Sophia Pavlenko, will be available for purchase at the concert for $25.
Included are "Pachelbel Canon in D," Bach's "Sheep May Safely Graze" and "Jesu. Joy of Man's Desiring," selections from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker," as well as "Silent Night" and "O Holy Night."
For more information, call Trinity United Methodist Church at (910) 576-4186.
