Kenneth S. Shoemaker, 87, of Pinehurst, joined his beloved wife Petey in Heaven Friday, Nov. 21, 2008.
Ken was born Jan. 10, 1921, in Washington Court House, Ohio. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific fleet. Ken was a high school football coach for two years in Lima, Ohio. He was part of the team that built the Buckeye Pipeline Company's distribution system in the northeast and retired as vice president of operations. He lived in Emmaus, Pa., for 40 years, where he was an avid tennis player, bridge player, and wood worker. After retiring to Pinehurst, he continued to produce woodworking gifts for friends and family, and was very active in the Pinehurst Tennis Club.
He is survived by daughter Sandra (Paul) Willis, and son Chuck (Susan) Shoemaker. Also surviving are two grandchildren: Kevin (Dominique) Serafin and Alyssa (Russ) Sosinski, and two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Thomas Sosinski.
A joint memorial service will be held for Ken and Petey at the Village Chapel in Pinehurst Dec. 6 at 1 p.m. and at a later date at the Moravian Church in Emmaus, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Heart Association, 2711 Breezewood Ave., Suite A, Fayetteville, NC 28303 or FirstHealth Hospice, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst is assisting the family.
