The Sandhills Flyers basketball team earned its first home win of the season Saturday against Campbell Club.

The Flyers used a 26-10 scoring run over a six-minute span of the second half to break open a close game and take an 85-63 lead, and then held on late for a 94-87 win.

Sandhills opened the commanding lead thanks to hot shooting. The team made 19 of 29 (65.5 percent) second-half shots.

The Camels trimmed the margin to 89-84 with 1:14 remaining but the Flyers secured the win by making five of 10 free throws to close out the game.

"I was very pleased with our improvement offensively and on the defensive and offensive boards," Sandhills head coach Aaron Denton said. "We still have to improve from the FT (free throw) line and with consistency defensively."

Saturday, the Flyers dominated the Camels on the glass, out rebounding them, 54-37.

Guards Germann Bostic and Bryan Thomas led the Flyers combining for 52 points. Bostic led the Flyers with 29 points and 14 rebounds. Thomas added 23 points. Anthony Chapman was the only other Flyer to score double-figures with 12.

The final margin could have been greater, but the Flyers made only 17 of 39 free throws.

Sandhills (2-4) will host Stevens Prep (Raleigh) at 7 p.m. tonight at The O'Neal School gym.

The Flyers were scheduled to play Campbell Club Wednesday night on the road. That game will not be played.
