Southern Pines police are looking for someone who shot an 18-year-old in the leg Sunday.
A witness told police that she heard a gunshot at about 6:41 p.m. and saw a man standing over a fallen Larry Martin Ward Jr. at 428 Shaw Ave., according to Lt. Rodney Hardy.
Ward was treated in the Emergency Room at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, but he was not admitted as a patient.
"It was not life-threatening," Hardy said.
Police are looking for a black man described as 5 feet 10 inches tall with light complexion. He was wearing black clothing at the time of the shooting.
Ward lives on South Mechanic Street in Southern Pines.
Officers recovered a spent bullet casing from the scene as well as scales. Scales are often used in connection with drug-related crimes, but Hardy said the Police Department is not calling the shooting drug-related.
"Without having all the information in front of me," Hardy said, "that's premature to say. But I think if you've got scales, there is a potential for that."
