Lancers Stop Flyers in Home Hoops Opener

Sandhills Community College dropped its basketball home opener Sunday night to Lenior Community College.

LCC's Curtis Hines scored 11 of his 19 first-half points in a 18-0 scoring run to lead the Lancers to a 91-68 win in a game played at The O'Neal School.

Hines finished with a 26 points. Tremaine Miller scored a game-high 27 for the visitors.

The loss dropped Sandhills CC to 1-4 on the season. It was the season-opener for Lenoir.

LCC started the game quickly, scoring 12 of the game's first 14 points to take an early 10-point lead.

Sandhills rallied back, cutting the margin to 16-12 on a three-pointer by Anthony Chapman with 9:06 left in the half.

Chapman finished with 10 points. He was one of four Flyers who scored in double figures. Germann Bostic led SCC with 15 points. Kelly Miller added 11 points for the Flyers and Pinecrest graduate Phillip Moultrie scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Lenoir ended the half on a 24-5 run, taking a 45-21 lead into the break.

In the first half the Flyers struggled offensively. The home shot 24 percent (nine of 38) from the floor in the first half and made only one of 10 three-point attempts.

Sandhills cut the Lenior lead to 54-37 with 14 minutes remaining in the second half, but the Flyers could get no closer thanks to Miller, who scored seven straight points to push the margin to 61-37.

Union Pines graduate Sam Wilborn scored three points and grabbed six rebounds for the Lancers.
