The O'Neal School inducted new members of the Junior Beta Society Friday, April 4. The new members are Grant King, son of Dr. Stephen King and Dr. Candace King of Southern Pines; and Eric Shelton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Shelton of Pinehurst.
O'Neal senior Josh Wolonick was the guest speaker. During the ceremony, candles were lit representing the four virtues of the Jr. Beta Club which are: Service, Leadership, Scholarship and Honor. Current members then "tapped" the inductees, and all of the members then recited the Junior Beta Pledge.
To be eligible for membership, a student must have an average academic grade of A- with no grade below B+ for English, math, science, history and foreign language for the last two trimesters at O'Neal and must be approved by 75 percent of the faculty.
The O'Neal School is a college preparatory, independent day school serving students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
