Moore County sheriff's deputies have obtained a murder warrant on an Addor man in connection with a shooting death Monday night.

Officers are searching for 18-year-old Justin Raynal Cotton. The warrant charges him with shooting and killing Donald Gray Sands Jr., 43, of Aberdeen.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Cotton's capture.

Cotton is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 175 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen in Richmond County, near the Moore County line. He may have been wearing jeans and a white T-shirt, said Capt. Jeff Medlin of the Sheriff's Office.

Cotton does not have a vehicle. Medlin said investigators have an idea what the motive was in the shooting but are waiting to hear from the suspect to be sure.

Medlin said he does not know if Cotton and Sands knew each other.

Deputies responded to an area at the end of Gillespie Street, a sandy road in Addor, about 10:31 p.m. Monday after receiving a call of a vehicle accident. They found Sands shot to death in a car parked near a white mobile home.

According to Sheriff Lane Carter, three shots were fired at Sands, including the fatal shot to the head. Another struck Sands in the arm. The third went through Sands' pants without striking him.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Moore County Sheriffs Office at 910-947-2931 or any local law-enforcement agency.
