The Southern Pines Fire and Rescue Department unveiled a new fire extinguisher trainer while participating in the recent DNA Life Print Child Safety Day held at the Southern Pines Chevrolet.

Members of the department who were on site were Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal John Stone, Fire Inspectors Paul Padgett and Bryan Lyczkowski and Capt. Robert Patterson. They gave brief demonstrations to 40 participants during the event on the use of fire extinguishers. This new trainer allows for a hands-on approach to using a fire extinguisher and uses a real fire to train the students.

The purchase of this trainer was made possible through donations made to the Southern Pines Volunteer Fire Department. As part of the ongoing fire and life safety programs offered by the Fire and Life Safety Division of the department, this trainer will be used to educate the residents and work force on the use of fire extinguishers in their homes and workplaces.

Anyone needing more information or to schedule a class can contact the Fire and Life Safety Division at 692-2720.
