Maness Wins Fifth In A Row For ECU

Seth Maness has been Mr. Saturday for the East Carolina baseball team during the month of March.

The Pinecrest graduate and Pirate freshman was the winning pitcher in Saturday night's 10-2 victory over 19th-ranked University of Central Florida (UCF). He is now 5-0 for the season with the victories coming on consecutive Saturdays.

Maness retired 12 of the first 14 UCF batters he faced in the game played in Orlando. In seven innings, he allowed two runs and five hits while striking out five and walking two. He also owns victories over Monmouth, Pittsburgh, Rhode Island and Houston. Three of his victories came during the Pirates' 12-game winning streak. Saturday's win improved the team's record to 17-7 overall and 2-3 in Conference USA.

In 35 innings for East Carolina, the right-hander has allowed 37 hits and struck out 31 batters while walking only 10. His ERA is 3.09. The Pirates have won all six games that he has started.

An all-state pitcher for Pinecrest, Maness compiled a three-year mound record with the Patriots of 21-2. He is the son of Mike Maness and Jan Benton.
