Now in its 33rd year, the Moore County Choral Society is the area's 100-voice community chorus. A nonprofit organization, MCCS is committed to bringing musical enjoyment and enrichment to residents of Moore County and surrounding areas.

MCCS presents two concerts a year: a holiday concert, performed twice the first weekend in December; and a spring classical concert in April. In addition, MCCS sponsors two scholarships to aid students majoring in music, and supports quality choral music in the schools. MCCS concerts this season are supported in part by the Arts Council of Moore County, with funds from the Grassroots Arts Program of the N.C. Arts Council, a state agency.

The Choral Society is currently busy preparing for the spring concert, which will be held Sunday, April 27, at 4 p.m. at Lee Auditorium at Pinecrest High School. Accompanied by an orchestra, MCCS will perform Cherubini's "Requiem Mass in C," two "Coronation Anthems" by Handel, "The King Shall Rejoice" and "Zadok the Priest," and Haydn's "Te Deum Laudamus." Concert tickets are $15 for adults and $7.50 for students, and are available at the Campbell House and The Country Bookshop (Southern Pines), Kirk Tours (Pinehurst), The Coffee Scene (Seven Lakes), or by calling Ann Covington at 315-8336.
