Wilton Robert "Pete" Hancox, 74, of Cameron, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, in Southern Pines.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today (Sunday, March 16), at the Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home chapel in Sanford, with the Rev. Tony Hancox and the Rev. Allen Lett officiating.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. today at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Sharon Hancox, 511 Torchwood Road, Carthage.

Mr. Hancox was born in Oconee County, S.C., on Feb. 28, 1934, and was the son of the late John L. Smith and Lola Whitehead Hancox. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran.

Mr. Hancox was preceded in death by a son, Richard Dwayne Hancox; and by brothers, John D. Smith and David Hancox.

Mr. Hancox is survived by his wife, Margie Helen Fulbright Hancox; sons, John Hancox and wife, Brenda, of Olivia, and Tony Ray Hancox and wife, Cindy, of Troy; daughters, Ruth Lester and husband, Randy, of Ikes Fork, W.V., Diane Godfrey and husband, Ned, of Cameron, Sharon Hancox, of Cameron, and Julie Woods and husband, Dave, of Fort Bragg; a brother, Junior Hancox, of Westminster, S.C.; a sister, Modena Lee and husband, Sam, of Westminster, S.C.; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
