Virginia "Vinia" Strickland Bryant, 61, of Laurinburg, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at the UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with Wesley Williams officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Bryant was born April 10, 1946, in Scotland County, a daughter of the late Clemon and Helen "Ellen" Strickland. She was the owner and operator of R & R Tax Service, Laurinburg, and was a member of the Laurinburg Church of Christ. She enjoyed housekeeping, cooking and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed taking care of her mother, who lived in Southern Pines for four years.

"She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother," says a family member.

Mrs. Bryant is survived by her husband, David "Dick" Bryant, of the home; three sons, Lawrence "Mickey" Gainey and his wife, Joyce, of Laurinburg, Phillip "Todd" Gainey, and David "Nick" Bryant, both of Laurinburg; three sisters, Marie Simmons and her husband, Bill, of Spartanburg, S.C., Carolyn Mullins and her husband, Mike, of Titusville, Fla., and Betty Deese and her husband, Bobby, of Maxton; and three grandchildren, Dustin Gainey, Aaron Gainey and Lexi Bryant.

Memorials may be sent to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

Richard Boles Funeral Service, Laurinburg, is assisting the family.
