Farmers, landscapers and homeowners will have an opportunity to dispose of unwanted pesticides free of charge on Tuesday, March 18, according to Taylor Williams, an agricultural agent with the Moore County Center of the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service.

Pesticides will be accepted at Cardinal Chemical between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Pesticides must be in their original containers with label attached. A licensed contractor will be present during those hours at Cardinal Chemical, located at 225 N. Pinehurst St. (off N.C. 5) in Aberdeen.

Co-sponsoring Pesticide Collection Day are the N.C. Department of Agriculture and the Moore County Extension Service.

Individuals with specific questions about pesticides to be disposed of are asked to call the Extension Center at 947-3188. Those individuals wishing to dispose of pesticides in containers larger than five gallons must register by phone by Monday, March 17. Those registering in advance are asked to have handy the name of the product along with the approximate amount of the material when they call.

Pesticides, including such materials as insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, rodenticides, and plant growth regulators, in their original containers will be accepted. No paint, oil or other non-pesticide waste will be accepted.

Information on disposal days is available by calling NCDA Pesticide Disposal Specialists at (919) 733-7366 or by going online to the NCDA disposal Web site at http://www.ncagr.com/SPCAP/pesticides/PDAP/.
