New Century Inducts New Beta Members

New Century Middle School recently inducted new members into the National Junior Beta Club with a special candlelighting ceremony. To qualify, members must have earned a 93 or better average in the first three marking periods for grade 7 to qualify.
The new inductees include: Kaitlynn Bryan-Scaggs; Laura Burns; Brandon Coe; Samantha Cordialini; John Dangerfield; Matthew Epley; Magan Hart; Mary Heyer; Adam Howard; Hunter Jefferson; Anna Klemenko; Sarah Loving; Robert MacPherson; Callahan McNeil; Reagan Molek; Hailey Nichols; Ryan Phillips; Elizabeth Purcell; Tyler Ross; Kelsey Troyer; Maddie Walden, and Ryan Wicker.
Some students were offered early admission for earning straight As in the first seventh-grade marking period. These students were inducted earlier in the school year, but were recognized again at the May ceremony. They include: Hannah Allen; John Crowe; Bethany Daley; Connor Dull; Rebecca Greene; Laura Haulsee; Laura Hutchens; Matthew Kane; Holly Mofield; Courtney Morrison; Benjamin Peterson; Jacob Phillips; Samantha Shireman; Kiana Smith; Myranda Smith; Carlee Taber; Melissa Tally; Jeffrey Thompson Jr., and Grant Whitmire.
The Beta Club members have also elected officers for the 2008-2009 school year. They are: Jacob Phillips, president; Myranda Smith, vice president; Tyler Ross, secretary; Ben Peterson, treasurer; Robert MacPherson, parliamentarian; Kaitlynn Bryan-Scaggs, reporter, Melissa Tally, historian; Samantha Shiremena, social director.
The New Century Junior Beta Club attends the state convention each year in Greensboro and competes against students from throughout the state in artistic, academic and talent competitions. The 2007-2008 New Century Beta Club earned one first place and two second place awards.
Students in the New Century Junior Beta Club must also perform community service and act as leaders in their community and school. These activities are exemplified in the Beta Club motto, "Let us lead by serving others."
