Woodlake Women's Club (WWC) held its final meeting of the year Thursday, June 12.
The officers for next year were installed. They are Brenda Tillman, president; Pam Jones, vice president; Wanda Parker, secretary; and Barbara Schmidt, treasurer.
This month's guest speaker was Donna McClary, principal of Vass-Lakeview School and member of the WWC. McClary shared with members her journey to Vass-Lakeview. She also spoke of what an important part the WWC plays in the life of the children of the school through volunteering with its Gingerbread Project and Book Buddies.
The volunteer of the year award was given to Kathy Barringer. Barringer joined the WWC in September 2005 and was immediately recruited to chair the upcoming spring dinner-dance in May 2006, the "poolside Hawaiian Luau."
She held the post of WWC historian during 2006-07 and 2007-08. In April 2007, she presented the year's history to the club via a PowerPoint show. And for the following year, Barringer set up the club's first Web pages at http://woodlakewomensclub.tripod.com. Both these efforts were in addition to the usual "photo album" housed in the 19th Hole library.
With Lois Frazelle and other avid birders in the Woodlake community, Barringer became a charter member of the newly formed Woodlake Birders in 2006. Until May of this year, she wrote the Birders article in Reflections and set up a Web site for them at http://woodlakebirders.tripod.com.
"The WWC and community are grateful to her for the enthusiasm and talent she brings to Woodlake," says a spokesman.
