Mary Jane Hutchens Souweine, 76, of Pinehurst, died Monday, June 9, 2008, at her home after a brief illness.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 13, at Brownson Presbyterian Church, Southern Pines, with Dr. Grady Perryman officiating.
Mrs. Souweine was born Sept. 16, 1931, in High Point, a daughter of the late George E. Hutchens and Elizabeth L. Hutchens. She graduated from Salem Academy, Winston-Salem, and attended Converse College, Spartanburg, S.C. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.
In 1954, she married Jean Souweine, and they subsequently lived in High Point, Charlotte and Brussels, Belgium, before retiring to Pinehurst. While in High Point, Mrs. Souweine was a member of the Junior League and in Pinehurst, she was a member of the Sandhills Community College Foundation. She was also active in her church and was involved with the Arts Council of Moore County and other activities.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Souweine is survived by four daughters, Mary Catherine Calloway and her husband, David, of High Point, Elizabeth Jane Henderson and her husband, David, of Asheboro, Marie-France Allred and husband, Tim, of Asheboro, and Sophie Anne Neely and her husband, Jim, of Surfside Beach, S.C.; seven granddaughters, Ashley Moody and her husband, Bryan, Lauren Burton, Brittany Allred, Brooke Allred, Andie Calloway, Rebecca Henderson and Meredith Neely; one great-grandson, Montgomery Moody; and one great-granddaughter, Tess Moody; three sisters-in-law, Dottie Hutchens, Jane Hutchens and Patricia Hutchens, all of High Point.
Memorial donations may be sent to FirstHealth Hospice Foundation,150 Applecross Rd., Pinehurst, NC 28374, or to Sandhills Community College Foundation, 3395 Airport Rd., Pinehurst, NC 28374.
Boles Funeral Home, Pinehurst, is assisting the family.
