The Animal Center of Moore County is now remaining open until 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for adoptions. It is also opening on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Located at 5235U.S. 15-501, Carthage, 910-947-2858.

First Friday will begin again from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 4, in the open lot next to the Sunrise Theater, downtown Southern Pines. The Tsunami Wave Riders will perform. Food and beverages will be available. Free admission.

The annual Moore County Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Southern Pines Park. MANNA! is a community free lunch program and will begin serving lunches Friday, June 13. Lunches are served from 11 to 11:45 a.m. each Tuesday at Spaulding Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Beulah Hill Road, Taylortown; 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. each Wednesday at Trinity A.M.E. The National Alliance on Mental Illness will sponsor a 12-week Family-to-Family course, beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at FirstHealth Conference Center, Room A, located at the corner of Page Road. The course is designed for family members orcaregivers who have a loved one with a serious mental illness. The Douglass Community Center offers a variety of low-cost fitness activities for older adults. Clubs, programs and classes are available. Fitness room is open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Act II is an organization designed to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members. Membership is open to anyone who has previously been a member of Newcomers of Pinehurst or has lived in the Pinehurst area (including surrounding towns) for at least two years. The Outreach of the Chapel in the Pines is planning to begin an Alzheimer's support group in Seven Lakes. The group is for caregivers of Alzheimer's or other dementia-related diseases.
