Several local churches sponsored an optional service for graduating seniors at Pinecrest High School Thursday night. According to The Pilot's article, "Local Mother Protests Ceremony for Seniors," Amy Lorber felt compelled to protest this service to the superintendent of schools, The Pilot, and the ACLU.

I don't mean to be insensitive to Lorber, her family, or anyone else who feels offended, but it's hard for me to understand their argument.

Everyone was welcome to attend. No one was required to attend. And no one is preventing Lorber or anyone else from renting the auditorium and organizing a ceremony for graduates -- interfaith, no-faith, whatever.

This sure seems like a case of much ado about nothing.
