Members of the Given Memorial Library-Tufts Archives Board of Directors recently met with Village of Pinehurst council members and senior staff to bring them up to date on current issues and activities.
In an informal after-hours session, Executive Director Audrey Moriarty and Board President Jean Funderburg conducted a tour of the building and fielded questions from the council. This session is one of a number of similar meetings planned by the board to provide community leaders with a broader understanding of the important role of GivenTufts in the life of Pinehurst.
As a private library, the Given Memorial Library-Tufts Archives is totally dependent on fundraising activities and community financial support.
Moriarty pointed out that the library has over 4,000 patrons, but that only about 600 make a financial contribution to the library. A recent fundraising mailing to library patrons is seeking to broaden that support. Funderburg explained that the Board plans to continue the long-running philosophy to be a "free" library and not to charge for library cards.
