Peggy Lunsford Evans, 68, of Southern Pines, died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, July 30), at First Baptist Church, Southern Pines, with the Rev. David Helms officiating. Burial will be in Pinelawn Memorial Park, Southern Pines.

Mrs. Evans was born Aug. 20, 1939, in Granville County, a daughter of the late Floyd T. Lunsford and Allie Gentry Lunsford. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Southern Pines, and was employed as a beautician with Penick Village, Southern Pines, for more than 25 years.

Mrs. Evans was close friends with the Stem High School Class of 1957, and regularly attended class reunions. She enjoyed traveling with her friends and family. After her husband, Charles K. Evans' death, she continued to be an active part of his family.

"Penick Village was a second family to her," says a family member. "She was a loving mother and was devoted to her family."

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Hart.

Mrs. Evans is survived by two daughters, Haven Evans Harrelson and her husband, Larry, of Rockingham, and Pam Evans, of Greeneville; a brother, William Lunsford, of Stem; three sisters, Betty Wilkerson, of Oxford, Ludie Lunsford, of Durham, and Lucy Griffin, of Atlanta.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 8300 Health Park, Suite 10, Raleigh, NC 27615.

Boles Funeral Home, Southern Pines, is assisting the family.
